The Power of Routine: Small Habits That Make a Big Difference
The Power of Routine: Small Habits That Make a Big Difference
🕰️ We talk a lot about wellness — sleep, nutrition, movement, mindfulness. But underneath all of it is something simpler and often overlooked: routine.
Routines aren't about being rigid or boring. They're about reducing the mental load of everyday decisions so your energy goes toward the things that actually matter. When you build consistent habits into your day, you create a kind of invisible scaffolding that supports your mood, focus, and overall sense of wellbeing — even on the hard days.
Research consistently shows that people who maintain daily routines report lower levels of stress and anxiety, better sleep quality, and a stronger sense of purpose. A peer-reviewed study published in PMC found that individuals with lower levels of daily routine report significantly higher levels of anxiety and depressive symptoms — and that routine is "a powerful determinant of healthy lifestyle behaviors." That's because routines signal safety to our nervous system. They tell our brain: you know what's coming next. And in a world that often feels unpredictable, that sense of rhythm is genuinely grounding.
The best part? It doesn't have to be complicated. A single intentional habit, done consistently, can ripple outward in ways you don't expect.
🫶 What Our Team Does
We asked our team members to share one thing they do regularly to support their wellbeing. Here's what they said:
Vanessa (founder & co-owner) — "For me it's my reset hour before bed. Like everyone, I usually go all day. Work, emails, family schedules, planning & making sure everyone is where they need to be. My brain is constantly "on".
At night, I try & shut it down on purpose one hour before bed. Phone away. No TV. Usually read for a bit, hot shower or pick up the house (I find cleaning oddly relaxing).
It's one hour that's just calm. No notifications. No reacting. I intentionally decompress & reset. When I protect that hour, I'm calmer, clearer and so much more patient the next day."
Julia (packing & shipping) — "Exercise"
Chelsea (shipping & customer service) — "My morning ritual of cup of coffee starts my day with a slow moment.
Physical movement through the week gets me out of my head and in my body which helps me feel so much better! Yoga, walking & ecstatic dance are parts of my weekly routine."
Ryan (co-owner) — "Mine is driving with no noise. After dropping the kids or on my way to an errand, if I'm by myself, I love to drive in silence and just think. Just time to sort out things in my mind. Not physical health, but definitely good for the mental side."
💜Different routines, same underlying truth: showing up for yourself — even in small ways, even imperfectly — adds up to something meaningful.
That's exactly why we created Elderberry Boost — to make it easier to stay consistent with your wellness routine throughout the day. Our products are designed to fit naturally into the moments you're already building, from your morning ritual to your evening wind-down.
What's one routine that supports your wellbeing? We'd love to hear it.
